Our story…
Six years ago, we signed up for our first miles for migraines 5K run/ walk / relax event in Philadelphia and we haven’t looked back since. As a long time sufferer of chronic daily migraines this was a cause that was important to me, especially given that there is no cure for migraine, just an assortment of medications and treatments that may or may not provide relief. And as a seven-year-old at the time Grant was dragged along with me, although he didn’t seem to mind, there were post-race snacks!
Then the pandemic hit and brought with it changes no one anticipated including a discovery that Grant too suffers from migraines. However as were soon to discover the advancements and new medications that adult migraine patients were offered, were not yet available to pediatric patients. In fact, he had very few options and prolonged headaches often lead to an emergency room visit.
Miles for Migraines is working to change that and we are here to help. As a nonprofit organization they offer patient support programs, taken steps alleviate the headache specialist shortage, raise public awareness and the funds raised as the run/walk events directly benefit the local communities – in our case the Jefferson Headache Center and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
